Climate Resilient Livestock Production System

A novel project under National Adaptation Fund for Climate Change has been initiated in the State to sustain milk production and enhance adaptive capacity of marginal farmers by involving Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) as Lead Agency and Animal Husbandry Deptt. (AHD), Dairy Development Board (DDB), Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) with technical support of GIZ. The project is being implemented in 3 districts Ludhiana, Bathinda & Tarn Taran targeting 3000 Households of small & marginal farmers having landholdings of 1-2 ha and 5-15 dairy animals. The project envisage to enhance gene pool of pure blood indigenous cattle breeds, facilitate the availability of fodder in summers, climate proofing of cattle sheds and promote sustainable livelihoods of small and marginal livestock farmers.
