History of Science & Technology in Punjab

India’s scientific and technological achievements are among the oldest in the world. Its contributions in all fields have been very influential in the development of human civilizations. More so, India being a vast country having many different languages and culture, the study of history of scientific developments in different regions becomes extremely important.

Punjab State Council for Science & Technology has undertaken the task to compile the ‘History of Science & Technology in Punjab’ with support from DST, Govt. of India. The document presents a concise account of development of science & technology in the region of Punjab, which is one of the most developed states in India today. The documentation of history of science & Technology in Punjab is a serious attempt by PSCST to create interest in the public understanding of science and understanding the cultural patterns as well as development and advancement of technology step by step in the region. This document helps in examining the how humanity understands of the natural world (science) and ability to manipulate it (technology) have changed over the centuries. This document has also attempted to study the cultural, economic, and political impacts of scientific innovation and development in the region of Punjab and it is extremely useful in creating interest in the history of science in particular and science communication in general.
