Empowering Women in Sciences through Knowledge Involvement in Research Advancement through Nurturing (KIRAN)- Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs)

PSCST through it’s Patent Information Centre has been supporting the DST, GoI’s KIRAN, IPR Scheme since 2006, erstwhile called as WOS-C scheme, to empower the regional women with scientific background get back to mainstream. These women scientists got break in their careers due to personal obligations towards building their new families in their crucial career building years. The scheme particularly provides one year extensive training in Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) to women candidates especially in proximity of their residences after being provided one month orientation at O/o Patent Facilitation Centre (PFC), Technology Information Forecasting & Assessment Council (TIFAC) at New Delhi.

PIC, PSCST has been closely associated with TIFAC, DST, GoI by way of motivating candidates from the state in availing the scheme, successful conduction of Online examination at regional centre for selection of candidates in different fields of Sciences like Engineering, Life Sciences Electrical etc and finally absorption of regional candidates for 11 months rigorous IP training. The interns are provided hands-on training on various IPR filing & enforcement matters to build their entrepreneur skill set for venturing into their own start-up business as Patent Agents/IP Analysts etc. or take up relevant mainstream jobs. These candidates are also provided stipend during their one year training for their self sustainability as per their educational qualifications.

Till date, PIC- PSCST has trained 18 Women Scientists under the KIRAN-IPR Scheme. Our trained women professionals are now contributing significantly to reputed Govt. Organisations/Institutions like ICMR, New Delhi; PGIMER, Chandigarh; Central University, Bathinda as well as the private law firms.
